Tyres are quintessential to the functioning of your car or SUV. These black rubber rings bear the load while cushioning the vehicle against shocks, bumps, and jerks. But not every tyre is made the same. Features such as material, tread pattern, etc., make all the difference in each model.

How To Select The Best Tyres:

If you want to buy new tyres for your vehicle, there are quite a few factors that you have to keep in mind. Only then will you be able to get the Dunlop Tyres Airdrie that suit your car right. These factors include the following:

    • Weather conditions

    • Road conditions or performance

    • Tyre manufacturer

In this article, we will discuss in detail the different types of tyres available in the market. Knowing this information will help you make a wise decision for your car or SUV. Thus, in turn, your rides will be safer and more comfortable.

    Based On The Weather Conditions:

Based on seasons or climate, tyres can typically be classified into three types, which are listed below.

    Summer Tyres:

Manufactured to sustain the high temperatures of the summer season, these tyres can provide excellent dry and wet traction on warm tarmac. They are made with a firm rubber material, appropriate for heated roads. Their unique tread design gives them a superior grip, lowering the rolling friction. That, in turn, keeps your vehicle stable at high speeds and boosts fuel economy.

    Winter Tyres:

When the temperature drops, summer tyres can no longer remain flexible. So, if they are used, there will be a significant loss in traction. To avoid this, motorists prefer using winter tyres which are meant for the cold season. Made with a softer rubber material, these tyres can sustain frigid temperatures below seven degrees Celsius well. Besides, their tread design, consisting of large blocks and numerous grooves and sipes, is perfect for cutting through the snow, ice, and water on the roads.

    All-season Tyres:

When it comes to seasonal tyres like summer and winter, you have to switch them out twice a year. But this can be troublesome. Besides, not every place experiences harsh enough climates that demand summer or winter tyres. So, you can opt for all-season tyres instead and use them all year round. They are a hybrid of their seasonal counterparts and work perfectly in mildly hot and cold climates.

Based On The Road Conditions Or Performance:

The level of performance you need from your tyres and the roads you run them through vastly impacts their design. Thus, based on this factor, tyres can roughly be divided into three categories as listed below.

    Performance Tyres:

If you expect superb traction, precise cornering and excellent braking abilities from your vehicle, standard tyres will not cut it. You have to fit tyres that are specifically designed to deliver such outputs. These are known as performance tyres, which allow you to travel through different road conditions at high speeds.

    4×4 Tyres:

Standard tyres work fine on regular roads. But in off-road conditions, they are not adequate. So, when you are driving through rough terrains, you need 4×4 tyres. They are available in highway terrain, mud terrain, and all-terrain varieties. These can move effortlessly through mud, snow, and sludge, providing optimal performance each time.

    Run Flat Tyres:

A tyre puncture can happen when you least expect it. So, it is always best to be prepared by using run-flat tyres. These tyres have an inbuilt run-flat technology (RFT) which slows down the leakage rate. Thus, they allow you to drive about 80 kilometres at about 80 kilometres per hour, even after the puncture. So, you can reach your destination or a garage safely without being stranded on the side of the road.

    Based On The Tyre Manufacturer:

As for manufacturers, you can go for a premium, mid-tier, or budget brand. Choose between tyre producers such as Continental, Pirelli, Michelin, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Nexen, Falken, Yokohama, etc. The bottom line is whichever brand or type of Tyres Airdrie you choose, they have to be the right fit for your vehicle. Only then will you be able to enjoy your car rides to the fullest.
